Once you’ve figured out the main idea of the passage, you skim through the rest and get to the question. In the process, you want to try to absorb the general development of the passage and the points that it makes, but don’t get bogged down in the details, and there are usually many. Most of these details are not going to be relevant to answering the question, and even if they are you can always go back to the passage and look up whatever specific information you need to sucessfully answer it.
