SAT Prep Plan: SAT Tips

Tip of the Day 30

Anatomy of an SAT.

SAT questions are ordered in terms of difficulty. That is: Easier questions come first; harder questions come last.

You have to adopt different time-mangement techniques as you move through an SAT section. You’ll want to move through the easy questions as quickly as possible without being careless! The medium-difficulty questions you’ll want to spend the MOST time on, since you can probably get THEM right as well if you devote some effort to it. The medium questions are where you should spend your most time and effort, as it goes the farthest here. The last few questions will be noticeably harder—dash through these as quickly as you can, and don’t lose a lot of time on them. With the hard questions, either you’ll know how to solve them or you won’t. Take a crack at them, use your effective guessing techniques on the ones you can, but don’t lose perfectly good time on questions that are never going to reward you for your time or effort.
